A number of years ago, John and Karen made a decision that shaped their financial future. It allowed them to have a very comfortable life and to enjoy time with their children and grandchildren.
Karen:
"When John first suggested that we start our own business, quite frankly, I was a bit scared. Our family was young and I kept worrying about what might happen. But, it turned out so much better than what we hoped for.”
John: “We have everything we could ever want, and we were able to bring the kids into the business as well. Not only did that mean we could spend time together, but it also meant they are financially secure.”
Karen: “As part of our overall planning, we discovered that we could help with our grandchildren’s education. And, we could also help the hospital in a significant way and see the impact of our gifts right now. I had never heard of a lead trust before. But, it turned out to be perfect for us and for the hospital.”
John:
"We met with the foundation and our advisors and structured the trust so we both benefit. And now we don't have to worry about our grandchildren's education. We have enjoyed helping the hospital for a number of years and this was another way we could help."
Karen and John wanted to contribute $250,000. They placed a sufficient
amount of income-producing commercial property into a charitable
lead trust (CLT) that would make annual payments of $25,000 over ten
years. This will provide the charity with $250,000 in total and after
ten years, the assets will pass to the donor's heirs. Because the gift
tax deduction and the amount subject to gift tax is determined at the
time the assets are contributed to the CLT, any appreciation of the assets
that takes place during the term of the trust is not subject to additional
gift or estate tax.
As we said earlier, there are as many ways to support Good Samaritan

personal circumstances to see how you can enrich your heart and the lives
of others as many others already have. The next
