McLeod Health Foundation

“One day, I was at my daughter’s school when someone introduced themselves and said, ‘My mother was in the McLeod Hospice House in the patient room that you named, and I wanted to thank you so much. I can’t tell you how much it meant to us.’

This shared expression of appreciation showed me that what I did really mattered to someone on a very personal level.”

—Tim Cunningham, member of the McLeod Foundation Board of Trustees

Chairman of the Legacy Gifts Development Committee

A Personal Conviction for Improved Quality of Life

From day one, McLeod Health has held a special place in Tim Cunningham’s heart. “I was born in the old McLeod Infirmary, which evolved into McLeod Regional Medical Center in 1979,” Tim said.

Many years later, Tim received a Master of Public Health Administration and began a career with a health planning agency. One of the agency’s projects focused on assessing the region’s health care needs. “This project was the beginning of my involvement with McLeod,” Tim explained.
Although his career transitioned into financial consulting with AXA Advisors, Tim’s passion for regional health care remained. “I became a member of the McLeod Foundation's Legacy Giving Committee and in 1999 I was elected to the Foundation's Board of Trustees,” Tim said.  His committee service for the Foundation includes the Grants Committee where Tim has been very involved in the important decisions of how to best use donations to support McLeod Health's mission.  “It’s very touching for me to serve on the Grants Committee because we receive far more requests than we can fulfill.”

He has also been instrumental as a member of the Foundation's Professional Advisory Council which assists clients with charitable legacy gifts.  He can further demonstrate to others the significance of estate giving as he has made a personal commitment to the future of McLeod Health through a bequest. As such, he is a charter member of the Dr. F. H. McLeod Legacy Society.

In addition to his volunteer service, Tim has financially supported special projects like the McLeod Hospice House and the Mobile Mammography Unit because his brother and father both benefited from hospice care and his sister survived breast cancer.
