Sisters in the Cities
Almost 200 years ago, the Sisters of Notre Dame were founded for the education of the poor, "teaching them what they need for life." Today the Sisters continue this work in the inner cities across the United States. Whether teaching school children or instructing immigrant workers, lecturing at universities or directing pre-employment programs in urban centers, we are changing lives and saving lives by bringing school to the people.

With a fund of $2.1 million, restricted to our work with the poor, the Sisters are limited in their outreach. By doubling this fund, we can provide a brighter future for the many families, children and adults whom we serve. This money will give us the latitude to expand a ministry to reach more clients, start a new ministry to meet specific needs, or give grant money to a particular project.

Sisters in the Missions
The Ohio Province is being called to a deeper commitment to support the life and mission of the 237 Sisters of Notre Dame educating and serving the poorest of the poor in African and Latin America. The challenges they face are as many as the needs of the people: up-to-date textbooks in Congo-Kinshasa, a permanent structure to replace the temporary primary school in Nigeria and funds for an autoclave, x-ray machine and refrigerators in a clinic in Peru, are just a few of these urgent needs.

Building the Scholarship Fund
With funds raised from a recent campaign, a $1 million scholarship endowment will be established by the end of the five-year pledge period. Annually forty disadvantaged students will benefit with a full or partial scholarship to a Notre Dame sponsored secondary school (Mt. Notre Dame, Cincinnati; Notre Dame for Girls, Chicago; Chaminade-Julienne, Dayton). The Sisters of Notre Dame continually seek monies to grow this fund to aid additional students at each school.
